Africa Center

Stellenbosch, South Africa

The Africa Center was a design competition organized to create an arts village for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. This center was meant to host 30,000 artists' from around the world.

We designed a center based on the central idea of most African villages, living around a central courtyard.

The design explores the unravelling of the African hut and its rebirth into a more dynamic but clear transition to a contemporary future.

The architecture is contemporary African, traditional African architecture fast forwarded to a contemporary era. The African grass hut is elevated to new heights. It soars through space to form a pyramid reflective of African civilization at its most celebrated.
